Local VA Partnership Helps Fill Newly Housed Veterans’ Homes

Many Veterans exit homelessness with little-to-no furnishings or funds to buy essential items, like couches and plates, for their new homes. The local VA in Durham, N.C., partners with a nonprofit to let people pick out what they need—for free.

The nonprofit, the Green Chair Project, collects the items through donations and community partnerships.

The pandemic pushed the program to go virtual. Veterans can now “shop” online with their Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) case manager.
