In the last three months of 2021, the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System housed 705 Veterans , exceeding the goal set by VA Secretary McDonough when he visited L.A. in the fall.
This was accomplished through various temporary, transitional, and permanent housing programs. Veterans also enrolled in supportive programs that help transition to permanent housing. For some Veterans, the solution may be direct placement in an apartment or home of their own. For others, it may mean addressing health or substance use issues or job training while in temporary housing to assist with income stability.
In addition, the VA created a senior-level position to coordinate implementation of the West LA Master Plan 2022 . Keith Harris , a licensed clinical psychologist and national leader in federal and nonprofit interagency efforts to end Veteran homelessness, was named the senior executive homelessness agent for Greater L.A.
