FY 2023 Proposed Federal Budget for Homelessness

How the President’s Budget Request Compares to Previous Years

On Monday, March 28, 2022, President Biden proposed a $5.8 trillion budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 that would target $8.732 billion in federal funding for homelessness assistance programs.

This proposal, if enacted, would represent an overall increase from FY 2022 of 10.2% and an increase of:

  1. 11.3% for HUD’s Homeless Assistance Grants
  2. 13.2% for Head Start
  3. 23.7% for USICH
  4. 84.8% for VA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families
  5. 132.6% for DOJ’s Transitional Housing Assistance Grants to Victims of Sexual Assault
