The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded $431 million in grants to 258 nonprofit organizations to help veterans and their families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The funds, which will be awarded through VA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program , will be available for use between Oct. 1, 2022 , and Sept. 30, 2023.

SSVF grants help community organizations provide outreach, case management, and access to services like health care, financial planning, child care, legal assistance, and transportation.

VA is on track to meet its 2022 goal of moving 38,000 veterans experiencing homelessness into permanent housing. So far, it's placed more than 19,000 this year.
