VA Vows to House 38,000 Veterans Experiencing Homelessness in 2022

Between 2010 and 2020, the number of Veterans experiencing homelessness was cut in half. Unfortunately, that progress has stalled since 2016. Through the Permanent Housing Placement National Challenge, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) aims to rehouse at least 38,000 Veterans.

Achieving this goal requires a collective effort by all VA homeless program providers, with particular focus on:

  1. Grant and Per Diem (GPD)
  2. Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Contract Residential Services (CRS) and Low-demand Safe Haven (LDSH)
  3. Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)
  4. Housing and Urban Development-VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH)
