Treatment Involvement and Outcomes for Four Subtypes of Homeless Veterans

A longitudinal study examined treatment services and outcomes in a nationwide sample of 565 homeless veterans who were classified as alcoholic, psychiatrically impaired, multi-problem, or best-functioning. All four groups experienced some improvement in their primary problem area, in employment status, and in residential quality at eight-month follow-up, but there were significant differences in degree of improvement across groups. Implications for the design of homeless programs and policies are discussed.
